What your pap test won’t tell you

July 17th, 2008 1 Comment »

They say that once a woman becomes sexually active, we need to undergo a pap test or pap smear to check for sexually transmitted diseases or any abnormalities in the reproductive system. This is a screening tool which can be only taken even for just once a year, so it won’t really take a lot of time. Bottom line, that one test can actually be a lifesaver.

But there are also things that a pap smear won’t be able to detect in a woman’s reproductive make up and so one needs to undergo other tests as well and here are those undetectable health-related issues as researched by Dr. Andrew Kramer, a clinical instructor from Mt. Sinai Hospital in New York.

1. A pap test doesn’t cover detecting Chlamydia or gonorrhea - We all have an idea about Gonorrhea and as for Chlamydia it is ” a common sexually transmitted disease (STD) caused by the bacterium, Chlamydia trachomatis, which can damage a woman’s reproductive organs. Even though symptoms of chlamydia are usually mild or absent, serious complications that cause irreversible damage, including infertility, can occur “silently” before a woman ever recognizes a problem. Chlamydia also can cause discharge from the penis of an infected man.” Even though you trust you gynecologist, it wouldn’t hurt to be extra careful and remind your doctor to test you annually for these fertility busting infections.

2. This test won’t be able to detect Human Papillomavirus (HPV) - This common STD typically goes away on its own without doing any harm, though some types can lead to cervical cancer. Since the odds are high that your body will fight off HPV, gynes don’t generally bother to check for it. However, if you’re over 30, request an HPV test; a woman has a higher likelihood of contracting cervical cancer than a younger woman.

3. It won’t prevent HPV - But a woman can lower the odds of contracting it with the new HPV vaccine.  Ask your gynecologist if it’s right for you.

4.  In the case of abnormal results, you’ll need further testing -  The doctor may perform colposcopy, which examines cervical cells close up and a biopsy.

As always, health is something we cannot just rely on gut feeling, we need to make that one appointment for it can can a very big difference.

Wedding epidemic

July 16th, 2008 No Comments »

For me, June isn’t the wedding month as 3 of my friends are getting hitched this month.  When I got the invites last June, I was shocked to realize that they are all going to be July brides!  It’s like an epidemic and it’s spread to all those I know.  And the one common thing is that all of the weddings will take place at 3 in the afternoon!  What a coincidence, huh?  Well, I’m quite thankful as it will give me time to actually rest in the morning and have more time to prepare.  Hey, the bridesmaids need time to be beautiful for the wedding, right?

Foolproof sensual moves he’ll never forget

July 15th, 2008 2 Comments »

As there are a lot of moves that can definitely fire things up in the bedroom, being intimate in the end is still a two-way thing. Sure, you want to please your partner, and he wants to please you, but admit that you want your partner to do something you know will please you in the bedroom.

And in our efforts to satisfy our partners, it sometimes reaches the point of going over-the-top and the good time is cut short. So, here are a few ways to make him hot for you every time you’re on bed.

1. Try longer and softer moans rather than loud ones. As guys loved to be worshipped (generally) - play to his ego and let him know he’s doing all the right things and hitting all the right spots. Try whispering his ear from time to time and that will surely make the difference.

2. Rub warm oil all over his body. This will not only awaken his tactile senses, but the feel of smooth, sliding bodies rubbing against each other make fun for play, too.

3. Do all things at once. Pull his hair and nibble his neck while playing his nip for a while with your hand all the same time. Multiple pressure points turned on at the same time will send him into the intense universe.

4. Be the dominatrix. Push him hard against the wall or onto the bed. Bottom line, let him know what’s coming to him. Blindfold him and hold his wrists down and show him who’s the boss.

These foolproof moves are not all about gaining sexual satisfaction but a feeling of contentment. A contented feeling that he’ll never ever complain on bed.

Ok, I know, the Academy awards is not yet till the next year but just can’t help but to share these info below on Oscar’s firsts. The feeling of making it to the first spot of whatever category, either in a good or in a bad way, unfortunately, gives one a feeling of importance.

1. The acting talent who has received the most number of Oscar nominations is the late great Katherine Hepburn. All in all, the legendary actress had 12 nominations under her belt and bagged 4 wins. She was nominated and won for Morning Glory, Alice Adams, The Philadelphia Story, Woman of the Year, The African Queen, Summertime, The Rainmaker, Suddenly, Last Summer, Long Day’s Journey into Night, Guess who’s coming to dinner, The Lion in the Winter, and on Golden Pond.

2. The first Oscar Best Actor winner was Emil Jannings for The Last Command and The Way of All Flesh while the first Best Actress winner was Janet Gaynor for Seventh Heaven , Street Angel, and Sunrise. The two won in 1928.

3. The first Africa-American to win as Oscar was Hattie McDaniel, who received the Best Supporting Actress award in 1939 for her role in Gone with the wind.

4. The first person to receive consecutive Oscars was Luise Rainer, Best Actress for The Great Ziegfield in 1936 and The Good Earth in 1937. The first back-to-back Best Actor award was Spencer Tracy, who pulled off the record-setting feat for Captain’s Courageous in 1937 and Boys Town in 1938.

5. The first deaf person to grab an Oscar was Marlee Martin. She was the 1986 Best Actress honoree for Children of a Lesser God.

6. The first full-blooded Asian to be nominated for an Oscar acting award was Japanese actress Miyoshi Umeki. She subsequently won the Best actress award for the movie Sayonara in 1957.

7. The first Oscar-rated movie to have received an Oscar Best Picture nomination was Midnight Cowboy. The X-rating that was given, however, didn’t necessarily imply pornographic because the rating system back then was still in its stage of infancy. The official rating of the Jon Voight and Dustin Hoffman-starrer was later reduced to R.

There, this actors and actresses and this film were the firsts to be on the firsts list of the Academy awards.

4 essentials to a bad breathe-free kiss

July 8th, 2008 1 Comment »

Love may be blind, but it sure has a strong sense of smell.

As Cherie Byrd, founder of Seattle’s Kissing school, pointed out, bad breathe is a factor that can derail a kiss and stop a relationship from being taken to the next level. This means that no matter how romantic the setting is, it still wouldn’t be perfect date if it won’t end with a fresh kiss.

So, to ensure that many kisses and wistful laden smiles will be exchanged between you and your partner, better have all these essentials in your bag:

1. Toothpaste and brush. Do I need to say why?

2. Bottled water. Water helps keep odor-causing bacteria from forming in your mouth. So, keep yourself hydrated during the day by drinking water regularly.

3. Dental floss. While brushing, we still miss 35% of the bacteria and food particles in our mouth. Flossing helps get rid of these particles to effectively keep odor-causing bacteria minimal.

4. Apples. Aside from being perfect remedy for quick pangs of hunger, apples can also stimulate the production of saliva and thus, prevent odor from forming in your mouth.

So, to make your special someone feel extra-loved, remember that the best kisses should be the sweetest, cleanest and freshest ones.

Post-4th of July blues

July 7th, 2008 No Comments »

It’s the Monday after the 4th of July celebrations. The hangover of the festivities are still in the air and so I am one of those who are seriously thinking of an excuse not to go to work. But whatever reason I’ll give, the bosses will know it’s because of the long weekend hype. Hopefully, they’ll accept it.
